License and Permits
The Tennessee Fishing license will apply to all South Holston and Watauga River trips. You will want to purchase an "All Species" permit - this is also referred to as a trout stamp. A three day or annual permit are the options. Annual permits expire February 28 of the corresponding year, regardless of the date of purchase. Purchase a Virginia fishing license for all trips to Whitetop Laurel, South Fork of the Holston, and other streams that apply. You can either purchase a 1 day, 5 day, or annual license. The annual license will be valid 1 year from the date of purchase. There is also a "Trout Stamp" that will need to be purchased. Other stamps to consider purchasing are the "National Forest Permit" - a good portion of the prime fishing in Virginia will be within the National Forest.
